Heroin worth Rs 7 lakh seized in Mizoram, 2 held
At least two persons from Mizoram’s Champhai district have been arrested for possessing heroin worth around Rs 7 lakh. An official from Mizoram’s excise and narcotics department confirmed this on Wednesday.
According to the official, the department intercepted a car near Mualkawi village on the Zokhawthar road connecting Myanmar and recovered 574 grammes of heroin from the vehicle.
He stated that the contraband, which was worth around Rs 7 lakh in the local market, was smuggled from Myanmar.
According to him, the two accused from Zokhawthar village in Mizoram on the India-Myanmar border were charged under relevant sections of the narcotics, drugs, and psychotropic substances act, 1985 (NDPS Act 1985).
The department also seized the vehicle used to transport the contraband.
