Nagaland brings home prestigious Subroto Cup after a 42-year wait

Nagaland has finally brought home the prestigious Subroto Cup after a 42-year wait.

The U17 Subroto Cup tournament, which final was held on Thursday, was won by a school team from Nagaland.

Pilgrim Higher Secondary School (PHSS) from Dimapur in Nagaland defeated Government Model Higher Secondary School (GMHSS) of Chandigarh 1-0 in the final.

On Thursday, the championship game was held at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.

The Nagaland team won owing to a header by Setungchim in the first half of extra time.

The trophy was presented to the victorious Nagaland team by Air Marshal VR Chaudhari, the head of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The winners were given Rs 3.5 lakh, and the runners-up were given Rs 2 lakh.

A total of Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh were awarded to the semi-finalists and quarter-finalists, respectively.
