Disqualification petitions were filed against the five Janata Dal (United) MLAs of Manipur on Monday, who recently joined BJP in presence of BJP National President JP Nadda and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in Delhi, at Speaker’s Tribunal.
Joykishan Singh, Ngursanglur Sanate, Md. Achab Uddin, Thangjam Arunkumar, and LM Khaute are the five JD(U) MLAs who most recently switched to the BJP.
In Manipur earlier this month, the ruling BJP inducted five out of seven MLAs from the previous allied party, dealing a severe blow to the JD(U).
All five disqualification petitions before the Manipur Legislative Assembly were filed by petitioner Hareshwar Goswami, vice president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.
The petitioner’s advocate, Advocate Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, was present during the filing of the disqualification petitions in the Manipur Assembly against the five MLAs in all five of the cases.
In the most recent Assembly elections, which were held and the results of which were announced on March 10, the Bharatiya Janata Party won a majority of 32 seats in the state Assembly, which is made up of 60 members.
