Guwahati: Assam police seized at least 8,000 litres of condensate oil and arrested four people in this connection in the Dibrugarh district, the official said on Wednesday.

The police have seized a tanker of stolen condensate oil near the Bogibeel bridge.

As per officials, it is suspected that it was stolen from the transportation pipeline of PSUs Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) or Oil India Limited (OIL).

The tanker was heading from Naharani in Sivasagar district to Dhemaji when the police intercepted it on Tuesday and arrested four people involved in the racket, officials added.

However, in Upper Assam, it is common practice to steal this oil from pipelines and tankers.

Last year, in October, due to the rise in oil theft and pilferage, OIL started drone surveillance for its installations and oil and gas pipelines in Assam.
