Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announces Rs 300 Cr for AMCH on Platinum Jubilee

Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Assam Medical College and Hospital’s (AMCH) Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Dibrugarh today.

While speaking on the occasion, CM Sarma announced that the state government will provide Rs 300 crores for the medical college’s doctors’ and students’ residences.

It may be noted that the premier institute is celebrating 75 years of existence today.

CM Sarma also paid tributes to John Berry White, whose efforts led to the birth of this NE’s first institute of medical education in 1900 and Gopinath Bordoloi who played a key role in establishing the present AMCH.

The chief minister also released a commemorative postal stamp, and announced ₹300 cr to construct doctor’ quarters & students’ hostel.

He also asked the VC of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences to institute an annual award after Sir John Berry White and give it to the 1st MBBS position holder.

Furthermore, CM Sarma flagged off 9 Advanced Life Support Ambulances donated by ONGC as part of its CSR initiative.
