Minister Pijush Hazarika laid foundation stone of flood and erosion control schemes In West Karbi Anglong

Guwahati:Minister for Water Resources, Government of Assam, Pijush Hazarika, today laid the foundation stone of four flood and erosion control schemes of the Water Resources Department to be implemented in the district in B-Inghai area under Baithalangso assembly constituency in West Karbi Anglong district.
Addressing the locals present after laying stones at the schemes to be completed at a cost of about Rs 36 crore, Minister Hazarika said that last year along with areas like Hojai, Raha, Kampur etc. The devastating floods of the Kapili river caused extensive damage at several places in West Karbi Anglong as well. The Chief Minister directed Water Resources Minister Piyush Hazarika to visit the areas during the flood and do all possible work for flood control. Minister Hazarika said that due to the directions and goodwill of the Chief Minister, this time the Water Resources Department has been able to take up many flood control schemes.

Stating that due to the goodwill of the Chief Minister, the Water Resources Department has been able to release about Rs 60 crore to the districts of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Region in the last one and a half years, minister Hazarika said that the Water Resources Department is working uncompromisingly to prevent floods and erosion in all the areas of the state. On the other hand, it is not easy to fight nature, but more than 70 per cent of the state in the next two years is over if the flood control works being carried out sincerely by the department are over. Minister Hazarika said in the context of the speech that floods could be prevented in the magnitude of the incident. The Minister also said that earlier the annual budget of the Water Resources Department was between Rs 300 and Rs 400 crore whereas the state government led by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had sanctioned a scheme of about Rs 1700 crore for the water resources department last year with a focus on flood and erosion control in the state.

On the other hand, in the context of today’s speech, Minister Hazarika mentioned about the work being done responsibly by the state government under the leadership of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for the development of Assam. The minister said that we do not see schemes like Arunodaya of the Government of Assam anywhere else. Stating that the recruitment process was completed on the basis of complete drainage and merit in the days of the present government, Minister Hazarika said that one of the candidates appointed has been appointed without spending a single rupee. Before the foundation stone laying ceremony minister Hazarika also inspected the work of ongoing embarkment empowerment under the water resources department on the banks of the Kapili river at several places in the area.

Along with the Minister, Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, MP Hirensingh Bey, MLAs Bidyasinh Yinglang, Rupsingh Terang, Darsingh Ronghang, several executive members of the Autonomous Council were also present on the occasion.
