Salt can cause health problems: WHO

New Delhi: Salt is an essential ingredient in cooking. But salt can be dangerous. On the one hand, salt improves the taste of food; On the other hand, health scientists say it also causes health problems.

According to the World Health Organization, about 1.89 million people die every year due to excessive salt intake. Salt causes high blood pressure and heart problems. So, how much salt is harmful to the body? This is a big question. The sodium present in salt is an essential ingredient, which helps in maintaining the normal functioning of cells in our body. Sodium is naturally found in a variety of foods, such as milk, meat, and shellfish. But if consumed in excess, sodium increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and premature death, says a World Health Organization report. A harvard medical school report also said that excessive sodium intake leads to high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart failure. It also causes complications in people with heart disease.
