One of Arunachal Pradesh’s most anticipated cultural and tourism extravaganzas, the three-day Tawang Festival, has been cancelled.
The organizers have decided to cancel the event as a mark of respect to Lumla MLA Jambey Tashi, who died on Wednesday.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the event had been postponed for two years and was finally returning on Friday.
The Tawang Festival Committee, whose brother Tsetan Chombay is the Festival director, stated that the decision to cancel the festival was made in “honour and reverence to the great leader” Tashi.
Artistes from Nepal, Bhutan and Bollywood were to perform in the festival, said Festival chief coordinator Namgey Tsering said.
According to Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo, Tashi’s contribution to the festival’s expansion was unrivalled, and his departure would leave a gap that would be impossible to fill.
This “Festival of Dreams” is an initiative to promote the unspoiled Tawang Valley’s tourism potential and rich legacy as well as to broaden the cultural representation of Northeast India.
Additionally, it highlights the state’s unique culture, sports, dancing, cuisine, and Buddhist way of life. In 2019, it had drawn more than 40,000 visitors.
The first edition of the festival was held in 2012.
