Guwahati: The Pratima Baruah Pandey Memorial Award for the year 2023 has been presented to the folk culture artist Rahendra Nath Brahma. All Assam students have been presenting the Pratima Barua Pandey Memorial Award. Rahendra Nath Brahma, a resident of Dotmar Angthihar in Kokrajhar, has been selected for the award. Rahendra Nath Brahma is a devoted artist of folk culture.
He told the media that it seems like a dream has become a reality. Rahendra Nath Brahmar also expressed his gratitude to AASU.On December 27, the Pratima Barua Pandey Memorial Award will be formally presented to Rahendra Nath Brahma at Chandmari in Guwahati. Pratima Barua Pandey hailed from the royal family of Gauripur in west Assam’s Dhubri district. She was honoured with the Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi awards for her contribution to popularising Goalpariya folk music.Some of her popular songs are Hastir Kanya and Oh Mur Mahut Bandhure among others.Barua Pandey was daughter of Prakritish Chandra Barua and niece of filmmaker Pramathesh Chandra Barua of Devdas fame.
