Guwahati: The Under-17 Girls’ Hockey Training Camp organized by the Assam Hockey Association and the State Level Advisory Committee of the Government of Assam under the initiative of students and youth welfare was inaugurated today. The girls’ hockey training camp, attended by hundreds of athletes from 22 districts of the state, will continue till May 3.Guwahati Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Smriti Roy in a welcome speech at the launch event Member Secretary, Student and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam and Acting President of Assam Hockey Gitarth Goswami said that as per the instructions of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, this training camp of hockey has been organized in an attempt to take it to the national level. Stating that all measures would be taken to encourage the sportspersons to make the dream of the Chief Minister to include the name of Assam among the three states of the country in the field of sports come true.
Goswami further said that The Assam team of U-17 girls hockey will be selected from among the players participating in today’s training camp. The U-17 Assam girls’ hockey team, which will be selected, has come to Roor Kella in Odisha after the training camp. To be held till May 14 on May 4 .Sub Junior will participate in the National Women Championship 2023. In the context of speech he also mentioned that 86 posts of hockey coaches in Assam are lying vacant.On the occasion Indian Olympic Association Treasurer and General Secretary of Assam Hockey Tapan Kumar Das, Joint Director, Department of Sports Youth Welfare, Government of Assam Antara Gogoi, Assistant Director, Education Department, Government of Assam Deepika Chowdhury and President of Kamrup Zilla Parishad Shiromani Konwar were the special guests.The event was chaired by the Chairman of the Tournament Committee. Yudhishthira Gogoi.It is to be noted that three coaches from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Manipur .Training camps provide training to all the hockey players of Assam.
