Assam: Police bust human trafficking in Barpeta district; 3 held

Guwahati: Assam police busted a human trafficking racket and arrested three persons in this connection in the Barpeta district, the official said on Tuesday.

According to sources, a minor girl was abducted a year ago from Sarthebari by a person identified as Sahar Ali alias Bablu. However, Ali was arrested after the police conducted search drives at Majdia in Sarthebari.

The official stated that Sahar Ali allegedly sold the minor for Rs 1.20 lakhs in Haryana.

The minor girl has been rescued by police and arrested two more persons from Haryana in connection to the case.

They have been identified as Rajesh Kumar and Anil Kumar.

Further police investigation is underway.

The state registered the third highest number of cases in 2021, reveals the data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In 2021, over 203 cases of human trafficking were registered as compared to 124 cases in 2020.
